Statement by the Union Project:

"In 2016,  we converted several former offices spaces into affordable artists studios. The goal of these studios is to support ceramic artists who need more space and to provide space for non ceramic artists, whose work engages the community. In line with UP's inclusion practice, we have focused on making these studios welcoming and accessible for artists of color. Like our Ceramics Cooperative Model, many artists reduce the costs of their space by dedicating a portion of their time to help create or run programs at Union Project for the community at large.

Collaborative Studio Space @ UP
In 2017, UP converted one of these studios into a Collaborative Studio to better support artists still building their ceramic skills and defining their their artistic goals. our first artists were three Women of Color whose work is more sculptural in nature. As part of their shared space, artists receive coaching sessions with staff and mentor-ship by UP resident artists or visiting artists to help them hone their techniques and grow their body of work."

"Our Space is light-filled, affordable and comfortable. Everyone is completely supportive. For me, UP is truly a second home."
--Janet Watkins

"It's wonderful to be in a space where I can bounce off ideas and discuss experiences with other artists of color. I love have my own space to work!"
--Emmanuelle Wambach
